Uhmm mmm

Note:  Having watched Sling Blade will enhance the reading of this post.

Today was a good day.  I had the most interesting call and the person wasn’t upset.   This man sounded like he was in his mid 50’s and very drunk.  So, I pick up the phone and for the first 30 seconds I’m thinking this person is playing a joke on me, and then realize I’m dealing with a legitimately insane and or drunk man.  Before I give you the actual conversation, understand that he was talking like Karl from Sling blade the whole time (about 4 minutes).  OK, so the first thing he says is “Ya know how people from Phoenix use to talk like this, Uhmm mmm?”  I say “No, I don’t know that.”  He says “Yeah, they use to talk like that all the time Uhmm mmm” I say “Well, I haven’t heard that.”  Then he asks if this is Councilman Johnson’s headquarters.  I said, it’s not his headquarters, it’s the council office.  Then the conversation went all over the place.  He starts talking about his time living in San Antonio, with all the “Caucasian’s rednecks, and hillbilly’s.”   I can never be 100% definite, but I’m pretty sure this guy was white himself, so I don’t know why he was referring to those people as “Caucasian.”  I think the funniest part is that he didn’t really say anything bad about anybody; he wasn’t complaining at all, he was just telling me stories.   I ask the guy if I can help him with anything, because after all, he did call our office.   After I ask that, he dives into a story about growing up on farmlands in Nebraska and Iowa.  Remember, he is talking with a very fake, heavy, southern slang.  Also, he said the term “what not” at least 6 six times, for no particular reason.  I was wondering how long this was going to go on for, when he finally stopped talking.  There was no real end to our conversation, because it wasn’t really a conversation, it was him telling me stories.  Up until this point in my internship, every time I have had an interesting call, the person was always upset.  I need more calls like this.
